With its historical trade relations, the Lake Constance-Oberschwaben region is closely integrated into the goods transport networks to Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein. The economy is focused on mechanical engineering and automotive construction, as well as the food industry.

The logistical activities in this region are concentrated on automotive parts supply (e.g. engines and transmissions), the transportation of foodstuffs and oversize transport (e.g. silos, satellite components).

The region is also very well connected to the worldwide air freight network via Friedrichshafen Airport. With the A81 and A96 motorways, the region is also connected to an important East-West arterial route in the south of Germany.
