Logistics networks in Baden-Württemberg

Regional associations and networks

A number of regional associations and networks pursuing various goals in the logistics sector have established themselves in Baden-Württemberg to supplement the work of the chambers of commerce and industry and employers' associations in the field of transport/logistics, passenger transport and goods transport.

The Intralogistik-Netzwerk in Baden-Württemberg e.V. was founded as a non-profit association in Stuttgart in December 2006 on the initiative of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karl-Heinz Wehking from the Institute for Materials Handling Technology and Logistics of the University of Stuttgart along with roughly twenty other representatives of the industry and universities. The aims of the association are to promote communication and exchange of experience between manufacturers, users, developers and researchers and to develop public support programs. The creation of the intralogistics network has made it possible, within just a short period of time, to bring together companies from throughout the intralogistics sector and communicate the importance of this subsector for the state of Baden-Württemberg more clearly than before.

The Transportlogistikkreis Region Stuttgart (TLS) was founded in Stuttgart in 2005. This association brings together top logisticians from companies which make use of the logistics service sector. The TLS originated in the Logistics Managers' Group of the IHK Stuttgart and maintains a cooperative and friendly relationship with the IHK. The TLS concerns itself with the latest developments in logistics within the framework of events and meetings and aims to sensitize political and social decision makers to the needs of its members in the Stuttgart region. The TLS currently has over fifty managers from renowned companies among its members. Since 2010 the TLS has a new name "TLS Logistik-Netzwerk der verladenden Wirtschaft".

The KLOK Kooperationszentrum Logistik e.V. is the center of excellence for logistics in Stuttgart region. The KLOK brings together commercial, institutional and economic decision-makers for appropriate activities and concerns itself with logistics related issues in metropolitan areas.

BWT - Baden-Württemberg-Transportation (BWT) is an initiative of the Institute of Transportation Research of the University of Stuttgart (VWI) and sees itself as a platform for companies from the rail transport and public transport sectors. The members of the initiative are recruited from the fields of planning, track construction, vehicle delivery, consulting, security management and personnel management. Its activities include joint exhibitions at trade fairs and conferences, regular network meetings, job exchanges and a joint web portal.

The KTMC Kompetenzzentrum Telematik Mobile Computing und Customer Care is another regional network It concerns itself with special logistics-related issues.

Organizations with a more limited regional focus at the current time include, for example, the Logistics Portal logport77 and the regular logistics meetings held by the LNC consulting company from Hanover. Regular meetings are currently held in Baden-Württemberg in the Südbaden area (Freiburg/Basle), Stuttgart and Ulm.

Large national logistics associations, which see themselves as trade associations only (not employers' associations), maintain regional groups or hold regional meetings in Baden-Württemberg.
