Rhine-Neckar region (IX)
Plug‘n Play – From the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region to Europe's markets
According to a study carried out by the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning, neighboring regions can be reached more quickly from the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan region than from anywhere else.
The Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan region has a dense network of trans-European arterial roads (connections to A5, A6, A76, A61 and A65). The motorway network is supplemented by main roads which, in part, have been developed to motorway-like standards. The Mannheim/Ludwigshafen port center with intermodal connections is the second largest in Europe.
The Mannheim marshaling yard is the second-largest in Germany. 120 incoming and outgoing trains are processed here every day. The Rhein-Main-Airport in Frankfurt (air hub) is 31 minutes away. This ensures an optimal connection to the international goods transport network via rail, water and air.
The Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, which incorporates territory in several states, is one of the best performing logistics regions in Europe thanks to its highly innovative economy and an excellent network of universities and research institutes.
The Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region incorporates territory in Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate
in accordance with the state agreement between the states of Baden-Württemberg, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate on
cooperation in the fields of regional planning and development in the Rhine-Neckar area.
